“History is not a burden on the memory but an illumination of the soul.” ~ Lord Acton
The volunteers of the society are interested in preserving the rich history and cultural heritage of Thurmont and the surrounding areas of northern Frederick County, Maryland. Our volunteer work includes hosting a variety of events open to the public including the Christmas House Tours, local folklore and historical research finds, tours of the historical Creegar House and the Heritage Garden.
We offer these services to foster the connection within the community.
Membership to the Society is open to everyone and offers additional value to our patrons including an invitation to special events, special members-only tours, a calendar of events and a quarterly newsletter. Your tax-deductible membership fee will be a reinvestment into the property and continue to keep our organization a viable entity in our community. There are many opportunities to be involved depending on your desired level of involvement and availability. Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.
Together we can keep history alive in northern Frederick County!
